It was surprising that this is the same country where lakhs of acres of land has been encroached upon in Waqf's name: Yogi Adityanath.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced that Hindus were dragged out from their homes and murdered during a clash over the Waqf Act in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. According to him, the violence was orchestrated.
The chief minister added that "three Hindus were dragged out of their homes and killed".
Who are all these? These are the same Dalits, poor and deprived, who are going to benefit the most from this land," he added.
It was surprising, Yogi Adityanath said, that this was the "same country in which lakhs of acres of land has been Waqf-ized.".
They (occupiers) do not have any papers, no records of revenues and since the (Waqf) Amendment Bill was passed and action is being initiated, violence is being provoked for it," he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
What occurred in Murshidabad?
Earlier this week, three individuals, including a father-son team, were killed in the Muslim-dominated Murshidabad district after clashes that were reportedly connected to protests against the law.
Following a direction from a special bench of the Calcutta high court to deploy central forces "immediately" in Murshidabad after mass violence erupted there, the BSF had been deployed and the area was brought under control.
The situation in the West Bengal district was still tense but under control, BSF DIG Nilotpal Kumar Pandey said on Sunday.
"The situation is still tense, and the people are scared, but it is under control. Yesterday, there were many areas in a tense condition, but today the situation is better. We hope that with the cooperation of everyone, normalcy will be established soon," he was quoted by news agency ANI.
